The Tenerife Concert Hall
If you are interested in modern architecture, you should not miss the Concert Hall of Tenerife where you can enjoy one of the beautiful shows of the programme. The auditorium was designed by Santiago Calatrava Valls between the end of the 1980s and the early 1990s, even if the procedure started in the 1970s and involved many different projects and sites.
It is located in Av de la Constitución, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital city of the Canary Islands. Its construction started in 1997 and ended when it was inaugurated on 26th September. Today it is considered the most impressive architectonical symbol of the Canary Islands and one of the most popular examples of contemporary Spanish architecture.
The 6.471m2 building is divided into two theatres and the whole structure covers an area of 23.000 m2. It has an original shape compared to traditional auditoriums since it was designed to surround the audience with the auditory sources coming from the stage.
The main theatre, called Symphony, is crowned by a dome. The dome has 1616 available seats positioned in the shape of an amphitheatre, a 16.5-meter wide and 14-meter deep stage.
The area for the orchestra was designed by Albert Blancafort and pipes from organs rise from both of its sides.
How to get to the auditorium
The auditorium is in a strategic position, so you can easily reach it from any part of the island.
By car: if you are not in Santa Cruz, you can take the TF5 highway from the north or the TF1 highway if you arrive from the south. The auditorium offers a large car park.
By plane: the two airports of the island are located respectively at 11km (Los Rodeos) and 60 km (Reina Sofia) from Santa Cruz. They are very well connected to the city (you can also rent a car)
By bus: any direct route from the central bus stations of Santa Cruz reaches the auditorium
